Fusion is Happening Around the World
Fusion is not a far-off dream. It is not science fiction. Fusion energy is now routinely achieved at laboratory scale in America and around the world. However, up to now, every fusion experiment has required more energy to control the fusion reaction than the fusion reaction has released. With an accelerated fusion program, one focused on building demonstration power plants, scientists are convinced that the dream of a break-even fusion reaction is within reach. Both private companies and government-funded institutions are now racing to the breakthroughs allowing for the scientific proof of a break-even fusion reaction; a “burning plasma.”
An accelerated pathway to fusion energy would ensure that once scientists are able to prove a break-even reaction, engineers will have already determined a power plant design that can provide economical energy.
